Rolls-Royce is a manufacturer of luxury (very luxury) cars. It was founded in 1906 as Rolls-Royce Limited and currently has its headquarters in Goodwood England. The company split off its car division in 1973 and named Rolls-Royce Motors. It was acquired by Vickers on 1980. Vickers sold it in turn in 1998 but for 5 years real ownership was a bit of a muddle as both VW and BMW 'owned' certain rights. In 2003 however things were clarified and BMW can now use the brand Rolls-Royce for motor cars. VW had to settle with the Bentley part.
Quite confusing and distracting from the rich history Rolls-Royce motor vehicles have!
